Pure style – classic yet modern

In Vienna’s historic city centre, the imperial splendour of the Hofburg sits cheek by jowl with prime examples of Viennese Modernism, such as the Looshaus. Contradicting opposites? Not in Vienna.

Anyone whose idea of this city stems only from the films that romanticised the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria underestimates it. Classic modernism is well-established here. A visit to the MuseumsQuartier is a definitive must for anyone interested in art and architecture. The central square itself is an urban hub – it’s a place to meet, to chat or to simply enjoy the evening sun. The “mumok” museum of modern art hosts a programme of contemporary art by living artists. Nearby, the Leopold Museum exhibits works by such artists as Schiele, Klimt or Kokoschka. There is much to discover, and none of it is boring.

The trendy crewneck jumpers in the latest bugatti knitwear collection look rather purist, a bit like the facade of the “mumok”. Of course, the collection also features a classic turtleneck jumper, although it has been completely reinterpreted – it is basically contemporary art you can wear. In keeping with the relaxed attitude the Viennese have to life, the choice is entirely yours. What would be a better choice for the office today? Fine knit or chunky? Plain or patterned? Or how about adding a sophisticated reduced touch to the casual look for a change? No matter, this season, a knitted pullover is anything but a basic. It is an absolute must-have!
