We are talking about thick down jackets, cosy teddy fur coats and casual parkas.
Curtains up, we now present the most important and warmest winter jacket trends 2020.
Cool yet also warm: the down jacket
As soon as the weather turns freezing and it's really uncomfortable outside, we can rely on a companion that is guaranteed to keep us beautifully warm: the down jacket.
For a long time, down jackets had the reputation of making you look like the Michelin Man, and were therefore considered a choice that does not exactly flatter your figure. However, a wide range of stylish designs is now available that will not only keep you warm but also score with their look. Thanks to the usual duck or goose down filling, a down jacket is well-insulated and at the same time comfortably light and breathable.
By the way, in 2020 , there is nothing wrong with a down jacket that looks a bit chunkier: XXL designs or "puffy jackets" are one of this winter's absolute fashion trends. Important: Pay attention to a well-balanced silhouette when choosing your outfit! The bottom half of your body should preferably look as skinny as possible, for example thanks to skinny jeans. By the way: fashion professionals also wear an XXL down jacket or a down coat over a thin little dress or skirt as a contrast.
Warm quilted jackets are still trendy in the winter of 2020
We have already shared the fact that quilted jackets are a hugely trendy topic this autumn in our article "Step by step - your outfit based on a quilted jacket". Due to its insulating properties, a lighter quilted jacket is also still a suitable choice on warmer winter days. If you tend to feel the cold, however, you should opt for one of our beautifully warm quilted jacket designs. Or, even better, choose a cosy quilted coat or a water-repellent parka.
The parka – a winter jacket that is never out of fashion
Parkas are the perfect alternative to classic down or quilted jackets. Particularly typical are two roomy pockets in the pelvis area and a (removable) hood. Parkas are available in a wide range of designs for women as well as men. They look super-stylish and reliably keep us warm even if the temperatures drop to below zero. Hardly surprising, as parkas are a version of the anorak, which was originally worn in Siberia and Alaska.
Later on, the military made use of the parka's warmth and equipped the army with olive green designs. In the 1960s, a dark green or dark navy parka was adopted by the civilian population as a casual all-purpose jacket and then had its heyday in the 90s, when the military look conquered the catwalks.
Parkas are still a popular in-between the seasons option. Many design still come in an olive green colour; however, parks in shades of blue and brown are definitely one of the 2020 winter jacket trends.
Our absolute winter must-have: a coat
The fashion world has celebrated coats for many centuries. However, finding the right winter coat is often quite difficult. The coming winter season's trends are varied – from the revival of major classics to unusual designs. We are happy to show you here which coats will get you through the cold season warm and stylishly dressed.
Regardless which design you opt for in the end, one thing is definitely certain: a coat is an absolute winter must-have!
Teddy fur coats
Trend pieces often only last one season. However, that's not the case where teddy fur coats are concerned! It has evolved into the permanent hit of winter jacket trends and is once again a fashion professional favourite in the winter of 2020. However, why is a teddy fur coat such a must-have? We say: well, simply because it is so incredibly warm and cosy! Apart from the fact that it is a true all-rounder. Whether worn with casual jeans or a smart evening dress – a teddy fur coat looks stylish with (almost) any outfit.
XL coats
"One extra-large, please!" is the motto when it comes to our number one coat trend. The super-trendy XL coats combine casualness with elegance and add a masculine touch to your outfit. In addition, they are also either impressively long (down to your calves or even your ankles) or impressively voluminous. The best thing about XL coats: in freezing temperatures, you can stylishly hide several layers of clothing underneath the coat. We are therefore perfectly equipped for inclement weather and can huddle up inside our coats yet still look sophisticated.
Fake fur coats
We know: real fur is a real fashion no-go! Fake (synthetic) fur, on the other hand, is also welcome in our wardrobes in the coming season. Just like teddy fur fabric coats, a fake fur coat will keep us beautifully warm and cosy throughout the cold winter. However, what is actually the best way to wear fake fur if you don't want to end up looking like an exploded cotton wool ball? We recommend toning down the rest of your outfit. Dark skinny jeans, a pair of fashionable boots and a smart handbag are the perfect companions for fake fur fabric.
Wool coats
Why do we love wool coats so much? Simple answer: because they never really go out of fashion! You haven't found your favourite design yet, or you simply fancy something new? Then a clean-cut high-quality wool coat is probably the best choice for the coming season.
In menswear, wool coats with check patterns are currently totally trendy. If you prefer a more classic look, you are well-advised to opt or a timeless design in dark navy, black or chartreuse.
Women can go for a brighter look: wool coats also come in the trendy shades of orange and red and therefore offer a cheerful alternative to a dark winter coat. By the way, instead of buttons, waist belts are currently extremely popular. And, like last season, we still love to wear oversized (especially around the shoulders) and overlong wool coats in 2020.
Let's summarise: Cosy material, long cut and oversized fit – those are the ingredients for the winter coat trends 2020.

Ponchos and capes – elegance comes before functionality
Before we forget them: ponchos and capes are also must-haves again this year. Just in case you didn't know: the difference between them is that, unlike a poncho, a cape is open at the front and is draped around your body like a giant scarf. Alternatively, it may be equipped with a zip so it can be worn open or closed. By the way, a cape is super-easy to integrate into your outfit: it does as well with your favourite trousers as it does with a skirt or dress.
In the winter, we also like to throw on either design over a coat or a jacket – they provide additional warmth and increase the cosiness factor.
CONCLUSION:
We are now spoilt for choice: which of these super-warm winter jackets and coats do we want to huddle up in as soon as the weather turns colder? However, with so many to choose from, we are sure that there's something to suit all tastes and weather conditions.
