Ironing a shirt correctly – How to avoid creases and wrinkles

Where should I start?

The foundation for your ironing success is, of course, your iron and ironing board. You need a secure surface on which you can place not only the center section of the shirt, but also the sleeves and back. In a pinch, you can also iron your shirt on a smooth surface, such as a table.

If you're using an ironing board, you should pay attention to which direction the tip of the ironing board is pointing. For right-handed people, it should point to the left; for left-handed people, it's the other way around.

Additionally, your iron should be of good quality, otherwise you might burn a hole in your shirt. A steam iron can also help make your Bugatti shirt look particularly appealing. Steam is especially helpful for smoothing out nasty wrinkles.

Wrinkles can also occur if the shirt was washed in the washing machine with a lot of other laundry. It's always advisable to wash shirts individually.

Important: Especially with shirts, it's possible for creases to appear accidentally. These should be repaired quickly, otherwise you might not be able to get them out properly! A spray bottle of distilled water helps to correct these creases immediately.

Here's how it continues – the collar and the sleeves

As already mentioned, you should iron a shirt step by step. The general rule is: first the small areas, then the large ones. It's best to start with the collar. While it's comparatively small and usually folded over, if there are any creases there, the person you're talking to will definitely notice.

Use your free hand to secure the collar in place, always ironing from the outside toward the center. Also, make sure the outside of the collar is on the ironing board. Once you're finished with the collar, you can move on to the sleeves.

With the right technique, you'll quickly master this somewhat tricky part. Place the left sleeve of the shirt on the ironing board. The sleeve should face to the right—it's best to use the side seam as a guide. The sleeve should lie as flat as possible on the ironing board.

Now iron only the center section of the sleeve. Make sure you don't iron the cuffs and seams at first. Once you've finished this step, turn the sleeve and continue ironing on the other side. This time, however, the cuffs and seams will also be ironed. With a little practice, you'll quickly master this step, and your sleeves will soon appear wrinkle-free. Then iron the other sleeve in the same way.

Alternatively, you can of course also use a sleeve board. These are specifically designed to iron shirt sleeves correctly and precisely. So, if you're having trouble ironing your sleeves, using this accessory is an option you might want to consider.

CAUTION! NEVER IRON COLLARS AND CUFFS TOO HOT. Business shirts, especially, often have interlinings there, so ironing accidents are inevitable if you don't control the heat carefully.

The button placket and the shoulder area

Ironing your Bugatti shirt on the shoulders usually doesn't pose any major difficulties. However, the advantage of a larger, stable ironing board becomes apparent here, too. When ironing the shoulders, you place the inside of the shirt over the top of the board. If you absolutely can't find an ironing board, use the edge of a table. The shoulders can now be carefully ironed.

Ironing the button placket is a bit more difficult. It's easier to iron from the reverse side. The reason is clear: getting the iron between all the buttons without damaging them can be tricky, depending on the shirt model.

The large areas – iron the front and back correctly

Excellent! Now you've ironed all the small, difficult parts of your shirt. All that's left is the front and back. Start with the front and begin with the side where the buttonholes are. Now work your way to the back, piece by piece. This shouldn't pose any problems.

Many bugatti shirts, however, feature pockets of various designs here. You iron pockets in a similar way to the collar of a shirt: from the outside in. Some shirts also feature darts, which should also be ironed carefully and in small increments. Wrinkles can occur here, especially if the shirt isn't laid flat on the ironing board from the start.

Always make sure you iron your shirt correctly and carefully, even towards the end and on large areas. While the front and back are comparatively easy and quick to iron, this is precisely why unsightly creases often form, which can quickly become frustrating while ironing.
