Jersey – Interesting facts about jersey fabric

When looking for the right suit, you will notice that there are many different materials that will spoil you for choice.

In this guide, we take a close look at jersey fabric and discuss the different types, their respective advantages, and proper care.

When choosing a fabric, you should consider whether it's light or heavy, stiff or flowing, and stretchy or not, thus meeting your needs. For clothing fabrics, it's also important whether the fabric is temperature-regulating. If you're looking for a light, flowing, and temperature-regulating fabric, jersey is the right choice for you. Jersey is not woven but rather finely machine-knitted. Another distinguishing feature is its light ribbed pattern.

Jersey – soft, cuddly and stretchy

The name Jersey is said to come from the Channel Island of Jersey, which lies between England and France.

The first hand-knitted sweaters made of this material are said to have been created here for the local fishermen.

The mesh structure alone makes jersey quite stretchy. However, the addition of synthetic fibers, especially elastane, makes the fabric even more elastic, guaranteeing not only a perfect fit but also maximum comfort.

ANOTHER ADVANTAGE: THE SMALL SPACES BETWEEN THE MESHES ALLOW MOISTURE TO BE TRANSPORTED OUTSIDE

This fabric is also relatively lightweight, making it soft and smooth against the skin. The clothing industry has been using jersey fabrics for years – for shirts, dresses, pants, skirts, and jackets, among other things.

At bugatti, we also appreciate the positive properties of this material and like to use jersey in the production of suits, trousers, jackets, and coats.

Imagine you're sitting in the office in summer temperatures and have to attend an important, stressful meeting. It's especially important that your suit fits perfectly without being too tight. Your trousers shouldn't be baggy even after sitting for a long time, and the fabric shouldn't make you sweat even more. Clothing made of jersey fabric meets all of these requirements and is therefore perfectly suited.
